Speaking of books..in this case books to movies. I have noticed an odd thing about Mr King. As a rule I have not been that appreciative of film versions of Stephen King novels. Yes, I admit it, I read Stephen King..although generally not for the reasons one would think. And while there have been the occasional gem, but many of them just lack something.

On the other hand, his shorter fictions have made for some exceptional cinema. In specific The Shawshank Redemption and Stand By Me In their own way they are quite different but there is an underlying similarity in that in each the real story is about growth and the triumph of hope and innocense without being all sugary about it.

What's interesting is that I find Stephen King to be one of the better authors of our time. Now, I'm not talking about books like Thinner and other tossaways, but books like It or The Stand and things like that... I think he has a beautiful writing style, and may be one of the better writers of dialogue I've ever read. I have a great respect and love of his work. It might be one of my favourite books...his commentary in that work on childhood, coming of age, and facing fear is truly a work of art, in my humble opinion.
