The best horror writer, IMHO, is not on your list -- Jonathan Carroll. Of all the books to go in the "great purge," I regret giving his away the most.

yeah, i would have to say 'none of the above' or 'both' or something to a few of those questions.. i think shape-shifting can go beyond the merely mental but not as far as 'total package' for instance.. vamps, well, there's vampires and vampires, aren't there? Was hard-pressed to decide between Barker and Lovecraft; went with ol' Howard Phillips only coz Clive has written several NON-horror things. And as for the 31st, why its all of the above except the Xtian bit. imo and all that.

I do find it interesting that nobody has picked Christian. For centuries before it became a party night it was a religious holiday for Catholics.
