Caveat Phobia

Ever do something you were afraid to do? More to the point,ever do something because you were afraid to do it? I have a more than severe case of acrophobia. I get dizzy watching the intros to Tim Burton films (people with acrophobia will know what I am talking about). So which ride do I hit first at amusement parks? The biggest roller coaster of course. And I am debating skydiving. This would be a double problem..not only acrophobia but a bum knee since I was 11. But it has to be a rush and a half,eh?

I am claustrophobic, myself. Heights, I have no problem with (Chris can relate with you, though, but he doesn't make himself face it) and I actually thoroughly enjoy them to an extent. But confine me in a small space and I begin to freak out and it's actually not something I can make myself face - heights you can (in the case of towers and such) walk up to the edge go 'OHDEARGODICAN'TDOTHIS' and run back to the elevator or whatever and you're done. I fear of walking into a small space or being confined (my fear extends to things like strait jackets) and... I can't get away. x.x

So indeed, I salute you, for being able to put yourself into those situations.

Twice I have done things that I was afraid to do. I went on a loopy coaster at Darien Lake and spent the rest of the day shaking and unhappy. I didn't feel proud of myself at all for doing it, sad to say, just terrified.

The other thing was last year when I interviewed My Favorite Author. And you may remember my angst over that....

I seem to do it alot...it takes a while to build up the strength too...
like ferris wheels, and public restrooms...lol
anytime a ferris wheel is available I make myself get on it...*stems from being on one when it came crashing down as a child*
public restrooms...i'm not sure how that one happened...but I know I'm just now getting to where I can use them...used to not even be able to go in one before

Public speaking or having the attention of a large group of people focused on me.

I make myself do it. The day before a speaking engagement, I am just ill.

I applied for (and got) a job where I knew I would be handling snakes on a daily basis. I was absolutely terrified of snakes at the time. Turned out really good for me, as I got over the phobia!
