booms and books

I thought it friendly of my neighbours last night to go on celebrating Canada Day with fireworks until the wee hours. I myself was a bit on the grump side over the Doctor's visit that wasn't. Is Scottish medicine always such a paradox? Hope those who do actually celeberate it had a good day.

Which was not what I was going to talk about. Back to Orson Scott Card. I was rummaging through the backroom bookcase and ran into an anthology he had written circa 1990 called Futures on Fire. Seemed odd to read OSC championing people such as Nancy Kress,William Gibson,Connie Willis..even Ursala K Le Guin. Apparently OSC himself sometimes cannot decide on the line between writer and person. Or he has gotten dodgier over the last few years. Note to self..really need to update the 50 book list sometime. Judging from the shelf space it would seem I have met the requirement plus.

And if anyone does read the Magic House a review would be much appreciated over at tangledwoods.

the long walk to justice

Thanks to gothwalk for reminding me vis TH, but the Live 8 concerts are being webcast today..I followed the links from BBC. Will it accomplish much? Haven't the faintest idea. But at least it is nice to see people caring enough to try.
