1935 Telefunken invents magnetic tape for recording. This makes it much easier to mass produce records.

1948 The 33 1/3 vinyl record is invented. In time this would mean companies could take songs that people already had,put them together, and have the people buy them all over again.

1949 How did they get the songs in the first place? From here..in 1949 the 45 RPM was invented..also known as the platter, the single and the thing that accumulated to embarras you in later years.

1951 Top 40 Radio is invented in Omaha Nebraska. The same people who will buy a song twice it seems will also listen more to a radio station which plays fewer songs.

Meanwhile, in Cleveland Ohio, DJ Alan Freed invented the term..yes..I know you have all been waiting for this ................................

ROCK and ROLL
