Hollow Earth Theory.
Oddly enough, this is a 19th Century theory. It was first proposed by John Cleves Symmes Jr (and if people from Southwest Ohio find those names familiar they are right) in 1818. Although he himself never published, there were a number of books written on the theory...not counting Jules Verne's Journey to the Centre of the Earth. As a fringe but not totally invalid theory it lasted into the early part of the 20th Century. Even though there are a few fairly major flaws with the theory which it took people decades to understand. Such as the fact that if the Earth were made of concentric spheres, people at the inner sphere would have no gravity. For that matter, it would decrease the mass of the planet and change the gravity that does exist. Obey Gravity..it's the LAW
