Terry Gilliam is, to say the least, a bit unique. His films are always brilliant, albeit in a sometimes disquietingly erratic fashion. Leaving aside the Python films, which are an era in and of themselves, I would have to say that my favourite of all of his films is The Fisher King. Granted, given the cast one would expect much. But still there is an atmosphere about the film, woven from the script, the acting, the cinematography which makes this film stand out.
Now, I will admit to a certain amount of prejudice, having a deep interest in things Arthurian, and being a fan of Robin Williams. But still, this is a film that goes deeper than almost anything that either Gilliam or WIlliams has done while still leaving a note of hope at the end.
