Where was I? Ah yes..the third sister..Fantasy. Which especially in movies tends often to blend with either horror and/or SF. In fact the IMDB top 50 lists several Star Wars films as fantasy.
Fantasy seems to be the most grey shaded of the three. Is it horror? Is it SF? Is it actually just reality twisted a little? ..As an example of the last is Fanny and Alexander..which shows up on the IMDB list even though it was a Bergman film about his childhood. And Big FIsh, which could be fantasy or could be just a fellow's tall tales. Or Pan's Labyrinth..where we are left to our own thoughs as to what has actually happened.
Of course High Fantasy seems to be the big money ticket but there have still been a number of smaller fantasy films..The Butcher's Wife and Snow in August come to mind right away...and I am sure there are more but the brain is fuddled today. Now if they could just faithfully bring some of the modern classics to the screen.
