to American Encroachments

And the bridge over the
ghost loch to Old Town
With its skyline of
erect spires like a
stadium full of clubbers
and the ground level with
the soft swell of roads and
the follopian closes

Hours ago it had been a throbbing
crowd of chamos peppered with
bouncing backpacks and
foreign languages

and now it is 0300
and it is filled with
the emptiness that only
spaces can have that are
made for crowds and the
soft whisper of a mop
somewhere in preparation
