Joseph Barbera has died. For those who grew up on cgi and anime it may be hard to understand the true genius of a man who captured a good deal of the feeling of mid 20th Century North America in cartoons such as Tom and Jerry, The Flintstones, The Jetsons, and the American version of the Smurfs. Art? Certainly not. But the world would have been a much more grey place without him.
