What does History teach us? It teaches us what someone(s) in the past wanted us to think happened during a set period of time. History, afer all, does not mean fact...it means story or narrative.
As an example let us take that evil king Richard II, or so the historians and occasional world famous playwright to be remain nameless but whose is initials are WS, would have us believe. However, the truth is that Richard II was far ahead of his time in thinking that peace was not only more moral but had a greater economic value. But the revisionist had a true field day with his character and the events, even more so than modern westerm politicians.
This is not to say that the history we know has no merit. There is enough truth buried in the records for us to know what actually happened, and in the meantime we also learn a great deal about the Henrys and their supporters by what they sought to hide.
You may ask, what does this have to do with Monty Python Month? Because I have been reading a book titled "Who Murdered Chaucer", by that well know author of things medieval..Terry Jones. Also known as an integral part of Monty Python.
