Because Ray Bradbury is forgotten much more than he deserves these days.

I used to read a lot of science fiction. But as the years went on I realised that much of it was either A>badly written (see Sturgeon's Law)
B>dealt with political themes that I just could not agree with
C> was actually science fantasy and not science fiction.

Now I do like fantasy. I read it and I write it. But science fantasy tends to be..hmm.I don't have the time to research a fantasy so I will throw in some pseudoscience and change the elf in chapter three to a..insert species here.

Star Wars is science fantasy for the most part, perhaps one of the reasons I do not watch that much of it. It did not used to be. Star Wars actually started out as a space western. Which is not always a negative thing. After all, the original Star Trek was also a space western (you had to watch the old series..Rawhide,Wagon Train etc.)

The problem, and one of the reasons I am not a big fan of SF/F movies,is that there is a great amount of well written science fiction and fantasy out there. But of late the only really good films have been based on comics or graphic novels. And even then it is erratic..witness LXG and the rumours about V for Vendetta.

Perhaps the good stuff just does not translate to the screen as well. Science Fiction tends to make you think, which movies are not always that good at. Fantasy tends to make you feel. ditto. Of course a large share of each are pure escapism which is not a bad thing. But once in awhile it would be nice to seem them at least try,eh?
