apad 7

We lay in the slim still bed
and quoted other generation's poets
in the ale rimmed edge of night
and the geese kept watch for the moon

We did not make poetry of our own
We did not make each other our own
But lay side by side in the dark
lines from seperate stanzas

The next day you lay your dreams
by the lake and left for stability
I left for other mountains and
other nights of listening

as words and music built
me note by word to more

Apad 7 (about)

Her name was chimp..mostly because she was not much bigger than one. She had a degree in English at 19 and a lover who never seemed to be able to stay within 500 miles for more than a week or two. Ever had a relationship where you think it is lust but it turns out it is just a resonance between the two? Pretty much the story. The next day I gave her a ride to a small town in Northern Ohio where her mother spent her nights listening to a police scanner that seldom talked. The last I heard Chimp had moved to Virginia and married a small town sherriff. Certain symmetry in that I think.

revisiting the scene of the crime.

I watched Alice's Restaurant last night, which for those of you unaware is a film loosely based on a song of the same title by Arlo Guthrie. I think I just wasn't ready to see it again until now. As movies go it is a pretty mixed bag. As a portrait of the good and bad of the 60s hippie movement it is one of the more accurate of movies. And I think it captures some universals. If you have ever been part of a group of friends, if you have ever had a parent die and a friend die there will be some familiarities regardless of the fashion changes. And as Arlo once said Ït's a good thing it was just a movie..real life turned out a lot better."

One thing I have noticed. In those days to meet people you went where they were or they came to where you were. Now you just get online. Might be safer, but it does lose a bit of the adventure and learning experience involved.

Another good thing..it turned out that Arlo did not have Huntington's, which his father Woody died of and which he worried a lot about for years. These days He is still much like himself except a bit more..as you can find out about Here

meanderings

Going to Christine Lavin's site I discovered that Mary Travers (as in Peter Paul and Mary) is back in hospital battling leukemia. Visit Christine's site for news and links for sending get well wishes. I met Mary once at a festival years ago..and she truly does appear to be as nice as she seems. I do notice that Judy Collins will be filling in for her at least once..more information Here.
