Step by
uncertain stumbling step
the scattered old gods
are leaving the hill

they leave behind the
whisper of potentials
the echoes of not
quite realised memory

she will not love he
will learn to love
perhaps perhaps not
why? why not? the

voices leak through
the night Coyote
smiles in the dark
and lags behind the others.

Sporadic but Steady Quotes -April Poetry

What was is . . . since 1930;
the boys in my old gang
are senior partners. They start up
bald like baby birds
to embrace retirement.

At the altar of surrender,
I met you
in the hour of credulity.
How your misfortune came out clearly
to us at twenty.

At the gingerbread casino,
how innocent the nights we made it
on our Vesuvio martinis
with no vermouth but vodka
to sweeten the dry gin--

the lash across my face
that night we adored . . .
soon every night and all,
when your sweet, amorous
repetition changed.

Fertility is not to the forward,
or beauty to the precipitous--
things gone wrong
clothe summer
with gold leaf.

Sometimes
I catch my mind
circling for you with glazed eye--
my lost love hunting
your lost face.

Summer to summer,
the poplars sere
in the glare--
it's a town for the young,
they break themselves against the surf.

No dog knows my smell.

They almost pass each other's night
but there is that abstract sound
ale in a glass or a scuffled chair
or her laughter at a scattered joke

It draws them to each other for
a moment or a gathered dawn
Perhaps it will be a glimpse of love
or perhaps a mutuality of lust

Or perhaps just these few moments
that draw one life to the other
and a gathering of sound and touch
like a web of potentialities

that need not fulfill
that vibrate without agenda

Coyote slide grey shadowed
under the gnarled branches

Sentinels of a land sunk
sandwise in a different time

The Joshua trees whisper to
her in the softening night

Their centuries in deep
roots welcoming her.

Listen;there are
echoes of lost
friends in the
whispering fans that
inscribe lazy circles
above casual conversations.

Listen;It will
never be the same
it is always the same
worlds saved novels written
beds and casual lovers made

or not in the momentary
pause that the whispering
fans inscribe against
the night

"It is Time Gentlemen,Time"
perhaps this time it is.

March Music

Well,if you have not looked at the calendar today, March Music is now over. There were several people included who I would have gladly spent the entire month on ..Leonard Cohen&TJ O'Riley come to mind. There were others I was suprised at not being included. This,as a rule, was because the lyrics and the music were so intertwined that the lyrics did not really work as well on their own. Which is often a sign of good writing not bad. I do hope everyone enjoyed at least a few of them. And on to next month's project, of which more later.
