Christopher Wren, designer of St Paul's Cathedral and a lot of London. He redesigned the buildings of the City after much had been destroyed in the Great Fire of London (1667?). Hence; if you want to see any monuments, look around (and you see his buildings).

I was going to guess Christopher Wren, just because today is his birthday, according to my Forgotten English Word calendar (which is why they chose the word they did).
