bardiphouka | Reality and Fantasy

OK, let us approach it honestly. Most of us who are seriously involved with the fantasy genre, especially as writers, are on occasion accused of copping out of reality. Certainly Fantasy can be escapist. But so can most fiction at one point or another. And yes Fantasy can be about flight, whether it is trying to run from something or at times trying to run to something. Dystopia or Utopia, take your pick.

But I think that there are also times when Fantasy just rears back and kicks Reality hard (we shan't say where) to get its attention. Fantasy can be the best way in some situations to show what the true Reality is.

Which is another issue. Far too many people today have no idea what is Real. Look at all the so-called "Reality" shows on TV today. Wake up people, it is not about reality..it is verisimilitude, which is not the same thing, not the same thing at all.

Speaking of reality though,at the moment there are app 110 thousand people without electricity in the area, which is a good chunk of the metro population. And I do hope those in the area who stumble across my Live Journal from time to time, or whose live journal I read, are ok.
