Ok...also known as the first three flowers of Shakespeare..because they were about the War of the Roses..an incredibly thorny period in English history.
err..did I really write that? Well..Henry IV was not much better a King than I am a punster. But the cheap seats got to listen to royalty bickering, much like many soap operas but even cooler in that it had swords.
And so..with soap elements and Freudian symbols firmly developed, Shakespeare was off to the history races.

Date: 2010-07-01 09:41 pm (UTC)Henry IV was set right after said king took the throne from Richard II -- starts with him saying he'll to on Pilgrimage to thank God for everything... as soon as he's handled the Welsh/northern rebellion. And then we switch the the Hal/Hotspur plot. Plus, Henry VI Parts 1,2 and 3 were very early plays by Shakespeare.
Reminds me... Must book tickets at the Globe for Henry IV Parts 1 and 2 this summer. :)
